With the exception of cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, who was recently traded to the Tennessee Titans, the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs have retained most of their core this offseason.
They gave star pass-rusher Chris Jones a sizable new contract, and more recently, they brought back running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire on a one-year contract.
Edwards-Helaire took to Twitter to make it clear that he and his teammates are focused on winning a third straight world championship.
“Lets Glyde To The 3Peat!!!” he tweeted.

The Chiefs claimed last season’s Vince Lombardi Trophy after overcoming an early 10-point deficit to beat back the San Francisco 49ers, the team they defeated in the 2019 season to win their first title of the Patrick Mahomes era.
Since the first Super Bowl was held to end the 1966 season, no team has won it three years in a row, and the Chiefs are clearly focused on making NFL history.
Kansas City isn’t a prolific running team, and they don’t lean on Edwards-Helaire nearly as much as starting running back Isiah Pacheco, but they do need Edwards-Helaire’s change-of-pace ability.
His numbers have dropped since his rookie season in 2020, when he tallied 803 rushing yards, but running back is one position where functional depth is absolutely essential.
Unlike in past seasons, the Chiefs now win with defense — they were second in points and total yards allowed last season.
There is a question mark at wide receiver, as they went with a young, unproven group there, and the best of that group — Rashee Rice — was recently involved in a car crash.
Still, the Chiefs are the early favorites to win the AFC yet again this coming season.
