Chicago Bears tight end Cole Kmet is coming off a career year after building strong chemistry with quarterback Justin Fields, and he now has to navigate the league with a new QB at the helm.
Chicago recently traded former first-round pick Fields to the Steelers for a 2025 sixth-round pick that turns into a fourth if he plays 51 percent of snaps.
Bears players were openly in support of keeping Fields for the past few months, and they’re going to have a tough transition to projected No. 1 pick Caleb Williams, to which Kmet said on the CHGO Bears podcast: “What an opportunity for a young kid to come in here with an infrastructure in place and win games from the get-go.”

Regarding finding out about the Fields trade, Kmet said it was “really upsetting” but that “the writing was on the wall.”
He hoped Fields found a situation that’s comfortable for him, and it appears that he did as the Bears apparently took a bit less in compensation to do right by their former quarterback and send him somewhere he could thrive.
Fields will be backing up new Steelers QB Russell Wilson this year, and it could be good for him to learn from a former Super Bowl winner who has a similar skill set as he does.
Kmet posted a career highs with 73 catches for 719 yards last season along with six touchdowns.
We all know a tight end can be a rookie’s best friend, so Bears fans are surely hoping he can put up big numbers once again with Williams under center.
