J.J. McCarthy is one of the most coveted prospects in this draft.
More likely than not, he will be drafted inside the top 15 picks to a team that will put their complete trust in him.
While some teams might believe in him, there are some pundits that do not.
Fox Sports’s Colin Cowherd spoke on The Herd Wednesday about why he isn’t buying the McCarthy hype.
“I think he’s Mitch Trubisky with a better college coach. He’s mobile. He’s a nice kid. But his ball dies. He misses easy stuff…I just don’t see it.”

Cowherd could very well be on to something here.
McCarthy is a national champion and will be remembered in Ann Arbor forever.
However, it isn’t like he started for three or four years.
He started two seasons for a team that made their hay on the ground with All-American rusher Blake Corum.
He didn’t throw for more than 3,000 yards in any of his years playing under Jim Harbaugh.
Additionally, he didn’t throw for more than 25 touchdowns in a season either.
Only in 2023 did he have a completion percentage over 65%.
Now, these aren’t crazy issues.
They are small, little statistical facts that could add up.
What if McCarthy gets drafted to Minnesota and has Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, and T.J. Hockenson to work with?
Can he actually make it work with talented pass-catchers who need the ball in a specific place?
He didn’t need to worry about that at Michigan.
Of all the quarterback prospects in this draft that could go in round one, McCarthy should be seen as the least likely to succeed because he isn’t as complete as a guy like Caleb Williams or even Bo Nix.
