The Denver Broncos didn’t get to enjoy their win in Week 4 against the Chicago Bears for very long as they turned around and lost to the New York Jets at home in Week 5.
Like the Broncos, the Jets have been a hapless bunch but Zach Wilson and the team were able to pick up their second victory of the 2023 NFL season.
Denver actually looked competent in the first half as they were able to put together multiple scoring drives to go into halftime leading 13-8.
However, things flipped in the second half as the defense once again let the team down by allowing New York to score 23 points.
At 1-4, the Broncos could very well already be saying good bye to their playoff hopes given the state of the team and the rest of the AFC.
Russell Wilson has become the scapegoat for the franchise’s troubles and Colin Cowherd decided to compare him to other struggling teams with veteran quarterbacks via The Herd.
“Once you pay a quarterback big boy money and he’s not special, you become the Titans and the Vikings. Once you pay a quarterback that kind of cash, he’s got to be the solution,” Cowherd said.

Cowherd is referring to Ryan Tannehill and Kirk Cousins who are having trouble keeping their own teams afloat.
The Broncos invested their short-term future in Wilson and as Cowherd points out that decision may set back the organization for years.
Teams have no problem paying exorbitant amounts of money for game-changing quarterbacks, but Wilson has shown he is no longer that type of player.
Even though Wilson has looked serviceable every week, that’s not enough to uplift a Broncos team that is going nowhere fast.
