The Cowboys have had a surprisingly quiet offseason after flaming out of the playoff at the hands of the Green Bay Packers.
Many thought that owner Jerry Jones would be ready to clean house, but he quickly announced that head coach Mike McCarthy and quarterback Dak Prescott weren’t going anywhere despite heading into contract years in 2024.
The Herd’s Colin Cowherd believes the writing is on the wall and this is it for the signal-caller in Dallas, saying “I would move off Dak Prescott after this next season.”

Prescott is coming off one of the best years of his career and the Cowboys have been adamant that they have a mutual understanding with Dak about where both parties stand in terms of a contract extension, making it sound like unless he can lead them to the NFC Championship and beyond this season, that it might be time to bring in somebody else next offseason.
“I would draft a quarterback somewhere this year, second, third, fourth round, if Michael Penix falls, I’d grab him,” said Cowherd.
He noted this isn’t a shot at Dak, pointing to how the Rams moved on from Jared Goff, acknowledging that it’s hard to win a Super Bowl if you pay a ton of money for a quarterback who isn’t truly elite and highlighting Dak’s 2-5 playoff record.
Cowherd brought all the stats to this argument, highlighting Dak’s 48-12 record against sub-.500 teams and questioning if he can beat the best of the best.
It’s not sounding like a contract extension is on the way, but we’ll see how this plays out over the next few months.
