The AFC Championship Game between the Baltimore Ravens and the Kansas City Chiefs pits one quarterback looking for his first Super Bowl ring against another quarterback looking for his third.
Lamar Jackson is on the cusp of his second MVP but hasn’t advanced to the Super Bowl in his short but successful NFL career in Baltimore, while Patrick Mahomes is already a multi-time MVP and Super Bowl winner who will go down as one of the best to ever throw the football.
So, for Colin Cowherd, the choice of rooting for a guy who’s never done it versus someone who’s done it a lot already is simple, and he’s taking the quarterback who is emerging as one of the greats as well.
“I will be rooting for Lamar Jackson. He has a quality that I find incredibly redeemable,” Cowherd said on his show. “… Every year he’s added a layer and a layer and a layer … My kind of people. I hope he wins.”

Jackson was heralded as a dynamic playmaker who couldn’t take his game to the next level as a quarterback and as a winner in the NFL.
But in 2023, be proved he could be even better after leading the Ravens offense to the top seed in the AFC and looking more like a fully-fledged dual-threat quarterback than one who can just extend plays with his legs.
The ultimate next move, though, is to win a championship in the NFL – and this will be Jackson’s first chance at getting a real shot at a Lombardi Trophy.
He’ll need to take down the best quarterback in the league to do it, though, and the Chiefs’ No. 2 overall defense.
