With the Washington Commanders recently trading once-promising young quarterback Sam Howell to the Seattle Seahawks, the team is ready to start from scratch at the quarterback position in terms of bringing in a rookie through the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft.
Even though the franchise recently signed veteran journeyman Marcus Mariota to be the starting quarterback for the time being, the Commanders have every intention of drafting what could be the future face of the franchise with the No. 2 overall pick in the draft on April 25.
That said, the team is currently doing its due diligence to decide which quarterback that will be available is the best fit for Washington, and it seems to have come down to three potential candidates: Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels, and J.J. McCarthy.
However, according to Colin Cowherd of FOX Sports, if the Commanders were going to make their pick today, they’d go with the reigning Heisman Trophy winner from LSU via The Herd with Colin Cowherd.
“I’ve been told the Washington Commanders as of today would choose Jayden Daniels,” Cowherd said.

This is a surprising twist, as most believe that Maye will be the second quarterback off the board in the upcoming draft, with all signs pointing to the Commanders bringing him in at No. 2 overall once Caleb Williams is presumably off the board at No. 1.
With a few weeks left until the first round of the draft gets underway, it’ll be interesting to see if projections change or if Daniels is the second quarterback taken after Williams.
