One of the quietly good rookie receivers in the NFL in 2023 was Indianapolis Colts receiver Josh Downs.
He proved himself to be a very useful and dangerous weapon for head coach Shane Steichen.
However, Downs recently acknowledged that he left some plays out there on the field last year, per Around The NFL.
“I have some little things I can improve on in route releases…I left some plays on the field last year…I’m trying to identify coverages better,” the former North Carolina Tar Heel told the team’s official site this week.

Colts fans should love a few things about this.
First off, the humility from the young player is really neat to see.
Secondly, if Downs thinks he has a lot to work on, the rest of the NFL is in real trouble.
Even though he started just nine games, he was targeted almost 100 times.
He reeled in 68 receptions for 771 yards and 2 touchdowns.
That also was with multiple quarterbacks.
If he makes a year two leap, the Colts should be a playoff team.
With second-year quarterback Anthony Richardson expected to be fully healthy, with All-Pro running back Jonathan Taylor expected to get a full workload, and with the Colts also adding receiver AD Mitchell in the second round of the draft, Indy’s offense should be electric in 2024.
If Downs can take that leap and come close to 1,000 yards receiving, this will be one of the best offenses in football.
Fans need to keep an eye out for him in his sophomore NFL season.
He has the potential to really pop off.
