The Washington Commanders have made a pretty big splash by hiring Dan Quinn, who was the Dallas Cowboys’ defensive coordinator for the last three seasons, to be their new head coach.
With new ownership headed by billionaire investor Josh Harris and NBA legend Magic Johnson, it looks like the Commanders are serious about being a legitimate winning franchise.
It is now time for Quinn to fill his coaching staff, and per Calvin Watkins, the team is interested in another Cowboys coach — Joe Whitt Jr.
Washington is working on scheduling an interview with Cowboys defensive passing game coordinator Joe Whitt for its defensive coordinators job a person with knowledge of the team’s thinking said. Cowboys also interested in Whitt’s services.

Whitt is being considered for Washington’s defensive coordinator role, and he has served as Dallas’ passing game coordinator since 2021.
Prior to that, he had been an assistant for the Atlanta Falcons, Green Bay Packers, Cleveland Browns, and Atlanta Falcons.
Dallas is also looking to perhaps hire Whitt to be their new defensive coordinator with Quinn now in Washington.
Washington went 4-13 this season in their first year under their new ownership regime, and they have plenty of weaknesses to address moving forward.
They will have the No. 2 pick in April’s draft, which they could use on a new quarterback, or perhaps a wide receiver or edge rusher.
There is now some optimism surrounding the franchise that it never really had during its 20-plus years under the ownership of Dan Snyder, who became a controversial figure for many reasons.
The Commanders had been one of the NFL’s most respected and successful franchises in the 1980s and early 1990s, and getting back to that level of competitiveness is obviously the goal of their new ownership group.
