With Brandon McManus’ release, the Washington Commanders needed to get a new kicker.
They added Ramiz Ahmed earlier in the month and while it seemed like he was all set to hold onto the job, they brought in some more competition.
According to a report by NFL insider Bridget Condon, they’ve now hosted UFL kicker Matt McCrane for a workout.
McCrane was quite familiar with the area, as he played for the DC Defenders last season.

He went 16-for-20 in field goal attempts, ranking fourth in kicking points scored and even knocking down a 58-yard kick.
He also comes with some NFL experience.
He played for three teams during the 2018 season, scoring on 66.7% of his field goal attempts, with all of his four misses coming beyond 40 yards.
It’s the dawn of a new era for the Commanders, and they know they’re not exactly favored to make a big splash next season, not even with Dan Quinn, Kliff Kingsbury, and Jayden Daniels arriving in town.
That’s why they cannot leave any stone unturned or spare any efforts to make sure their team is right on point before the start of the season.
Kickers are crucial, but they’ve also proven to be somewhat replaceable over the past couple of years, with teams adopting a zero-tolerance policy about subpar performances.
So, McCrane needs to make the most of this opportunity if he gets signed as expected, as he might not be able to get another chance down the road.
