The Washington Commanders cleaned house after their 2023 NFL season ended as they let go of former head coach Ron Rivera.
The Commanders, under new team owner Josh Harris, are now in the market for a new head coach and have been linked to several of the top candidates.
This head coaching cycle is one of the most intriguing in recent memory given the quality of coaches looking for a job, though the team needs to be diligent in who it chooses.
Washington has been mired in mediocrity for years now and needs a head coach who can uplift them.
One potential name to watch out for is Eric Bieniemy who served as the team’s offensive coordinator this past season.
Bieniemy was interviewed for the head coaching position and reportedly did well via Josina Anderson of CBS.
“I’m told the #Commanders interviewed assistant head coach/offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy for their head coaching job last week, per source. The interview was labeled “detailed” and checked all of the boxes,” Anderson reported.

Bieniemy is well-regarded for his offensive creativity and did well this past regular season with the talent he had on hand.
Sam Howell had his moments as the starter, but struggled after the trade deadline and is likely going to be relegated to a backup role.
Meanwhile, the Commanders do have talented skill position players like Terry McLaurin, Jahan Dotson, and Brian Robinson Jr.
Bieniemy is a worthwhile candidate given his previous experience, though it remains to be seen which direction the franchise will go in.
