The Washington Commanders owned the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and they went with the quarterback with arguably the highest upside in LSU’s Jayden Daniels.
Daniels and UNC’s Drake Maye were reportedly in the running for the Commanders leading up to the draft, but the organization went with the reigning Heisman Trophy winner.
Daniels’ game is often compared to Baltimore Ravens star Lamar Jackson’s, a lofty comparison considering the latter is a two-time NFL MVP.
However, Washington clearly believes in Daniels and for good reasons as he showed considerable improvement year after year in college and walks into a locker room that desperately needs a new leader.
Rookies kicked off their first year in the league after reporting to rookie minicamp, a two-day affair that lets coaches and their staffs work with the players for the first time.
After their first practice, the Commander rookies all were in awe of Daniels via Around The NFL.

Fellow 2024 Washington draftees Ben Sinnott and Luke McCaffrey got a chance to see their new quarterback up close and came away clearly impressed with how he looked on the field.
Although it was a light practice day, Daniels got to show off a bit of his arm talent where he reportedly completed all 12 of his passing attempts.
Daniels has a great arm which he uses to throw strikes downfield, but he’s also an excellent runner when the pocket collapses.
Dual-threat quarterbacks are experiencing a renaissance in the league and there’s little reason to doubt that Daniels should see immediate success.
