The Washington Commanders haven’t had the season they hoped for, and the new ownership might be ready to clean house.
With two defensive stars in the final year of their contracts and the team likely to be very aggressive in the offseason, the days could be numbered for some players, namely Montez Sweat and Chase Young.
Sweat had already talked about the possibility of being traded, but he also wanted to make sure to keep the focus on their next game vs. the Philadelphia Eagles.
Now, Young has echoed a similar sentiment to that of his fellow pass rusher, stating that he doesn’t think about the trade deadline at all and that he’s just focused on winning that divisional game (via Ben Standig).

There’s no denying that Young has the potential to be one of the most disruptive defenders in the game, but he’s struggled to stay healthy throughout the course of his young career.
He’s coming off a two-sack performance against the New York Giants, which was his best game this season, and he has five sacks for the year.
He spent plenty of time recovering from a season-ending ACL injury, and there will always be some durability concerns with him.
Then again, given his youth and potential, it shouldn’t be shocking to see multiple teams lining up to try and get him, and while the Commanders shouldn’t give up on him so early in his career, they have already committed plenty of money to their defensive line, so they might have no choice but to let him go.
