Last season, the Dallas Cowboys were the cream of the crop in the NFC, right behind the San Francisco 49ers, as Dak Prescott and company made easy work of the competition throughout the majority of the 17 games played in the regular season.
As a result of their efforts in the regular season, Dallas secured the second seed in the NFC and was thought to have a decent shot of going the distance as long as the team was able to continue playing well consistently on both sides of the football.
Unfortunately for Dallas, the team underestimated the Green Bay Packers in the first round of the NFL playoffs, resulting in America’s Team getting crushed on their home field at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
With the Cowboys once again coming up short in the postseason, the consensus was that this team could get aggressive during the offseason to make moves to address certain areas that needed to be upgraded.
However, Dallas hasn’t done much at all as NFL free agency is in full swing, with the team losing players rather than adding or upgrading on either side of the football.
According to Dan Orlovsky of ESPN, the Cowboys are the sixth-best team in the NFC now since the team has failed to act during free agency.
As of right now, through most of free agency (they have 3 picks in top 150 and need 5 starters)
I would rank the Cowboys in the NFC firmly behind:
Rams
49ers
Packers
Lions
Eagles— Dan Orlovsky (@danorlovsky7) March 13, 2024
That’s a pretty bold statement to make, considering that the Cowboys were a pretty stacked team regardless of moves made or not made in NFL free agency.
One move that the Cowboys didn’t make this offseason that was expected was upgrading the running back position, as the team let Tony Pollard sign with the Tennessee Titans and has yet to replace him, even though the running back market has dried up at this point.
