The vibes around the Philadelphia Eagles have never been worse after the team’s 35-31 loss to the Arizona Cardinals in Week 17.
While quarterback Jalen Hurts finished with three passing touchdowns, it wasn’t enough to overcome the issues on defense that allowed the Cardinals to come back from a 21-6 halftime deficit.
Hurts hasn’t looked like himself as much this season without Shane Steichen as his offense coordinator after Steichen left this past offseason to coach the Indianapolis Colts.
That has ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky questioning his trust in Hurts, who Orlovsky said on “First Take” that he trusts less than Dak Prescott and Brock Purdy among NFC quarterbacks.
“In this offense right now with Jalen, it doesn’t look like Jalen has a ton of confidence,” Orlovsky said.

Now, Hurts’ stats are almost the same as they were a year ago: He’s completed 66.1 percent of his passing attempts for 3,803 yards and 23 passing touchdowns.
But Hurts has thrown more than twice as many interceptions this year (14) than he did in 2022 (six).
The issues with Hurts are also about his recent inconsistencies as a passer.
The Eagles’ offense goes through peaks and valleys in points and Hurts has just two games with at least 280 passing yards since the team’s Week 10 bye.
He’s also been unable to make up for a defense that’s allowed at least 20 points in six consecutive games.
As Orlovsky mentioned, the issues are less with Hurts as the player and more with Hurts in the current iteration of the Eagles offense.
So until – or if – that changes, Philadelphia could be in trouble as the rest of its season rolls on.
