Not so long ago, most NFL teams agreed that quarterbacks needed at least one season on the sidelines before being thrown into the fire.
Now, just what happens with most sports, that’s no longer the case.
Teams consider a 22-year-old quarterback prospect an old player, which causes them to slip significantly in the NFL Draft.
However, former NFL QB Dan Orlovsky believes whoever takes Drake Maye in the draft needs to be patient with him.
Talking on ESPN’s Get Up, he argued that while Maye is an impressive athlete with superstar potential, he needs to be on ‘the Jordan Love plan’ and sit for a couple of years before being given the keys to the offense.

He believes that Maye’s footwork needs a lot of work, adding that all quarterbacks need to fix their feet when they make it to the pros, citing the likes of Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, and Patrick Mahomes.
Orlovsky believes the Green Bay Packers did an outstanding job of polishing and developing Love before giving him the nod, and not doing the same with Maye could be a disservice to his sky-high potential.
Needless to say, executives and coaches might not feel the same way, which is actually quite unfortunate and why so many promising QB prospects fail.
