After building a connection on the field during their college careers at Fresno State, wide receiver Davante Adams and quarterback Derek Carr had the opportunity to be teammates for the first time in the NFL when both were members of the Las Vegas Raiders last season.
Well, that time on the same roster at the pro level only lasted for one year, as Carr parted with the Raiders after the 2022 season and he wound up signing a contract with the New Orleans Saints.
Adams is still with Las Vegas this year, and he recently revealed on “The Rich Eisen Show” that Carr was a big reason why he ended up with the Raiders during the 2022 offseason (via JPA Football on Twitter).
“I came here to play with Derek. I can’t say I would have been here if he wasn’t here.” Adams said.
Wow: #Raiders star WR Davante Adams says it “hurt” not having Derek Carr with the team anymore and that he joined the team in order to play with him.

Despite his friend and quarterback no longer being with the Raiders, Adams has still been able to perform at a high level this season, as he’s already hauled in 46 passes for 528 yards and three touchdowns.
Based on his current numbers, the All-Pro wide receiver is on pace to finish the 2023 campaign with over 110 catches, 1,200 yards, and six touchdowns.
Over in New Orleans, Carr has struggled a bit during his very first NFL season that isn’t in a Raiders uniform.
In seven games, the veteran quarterback has completed 63.9 percent of his passes for 1,600 yards, six touchdowns, and four interceptions, which has amounted to an 82.8 passer rating.
The Saints aren’t on Las Vegas’ schedule this season, so unless they meet in the Super Bowl (which currently seems extremely unlikely), Carr and Adams will have to wait until the 2024 offseason to continue on with their friendship.
