The Las Vegas Raiders do have some talent on their roster, including Davante Adams, who is generally considered to be one of the best wide receivers in the NFL.
However, they do not have a star-quality quarterback right now, with Aidan O’Connell, who was an underwhelming rookie last year, and Gardner Minshew II battling for the starting spot under center.
Adams made an appearance on “Speak” on FS1 and said he doesn’t have a definite preference for who should win the QB1 spot, but that if he had to choose right now, he would choose O’Connell because the younger player held the spot to finish last season.

The Raiders began the 2023 campaign with Jimmy Garoppolo starting at quarterback, but after he played poorly and head coach Josh McDaniels was fired, the veteran was benched, with O’Connell taking over under new head coach Antonio Pierce.
O’Connell wasn’t impressive — he finished his rookie season with 2,218 passing yards and 12 passing touchdowns in 11 games — but as Adams alluded to, he has the advantage of having chemistry with his teammates, as Minshew spent last season with the Indianapolis Colts.
On the other hand, Minshew was named to his first Pro Bowl after filling in for Colts rookie Anthony Richardson, who suffered a season-ending shoulder injury after four games.
If the Raiders figure out their quarterback situation, perhaps they can be competitive.
In addition to Adams, they have another very capable wide receiver in Jakobi Meyers, who had 807 receiving yards and eight touchdowns in 2023, and Maxx Crosby is one of the best defensive ends in football.
They also have tight end Brock Bowers, the No. 13 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft who is thought to have star potential.
The Raiders, a once-proud franchise, have made the playoffs just twice since 2002.
