The Houston Texans may not have made it to the Super Bowl, but HC DeMeco Ryans will still be watching.
His former team, the San Francisco 49ers, will get a chance to get over the hump once and for all, albeit without him.
That’s why the former defensive star and defensive coordinator admitted that he’s going to be rooting for them.
Talking during Super Bowl weekend, the Coach of the Year runner-up thanked Kyle Shanahan and the Niners organization for giving him the opportunity to get his coaching career started.
“This is their year,” he said, via 49ers on NBCS.

Ryans did an outstanding job as the Niners’ defensive coordinator before getting the nod as head coach for the Texans.
He managed to make an immediate impact in Houston, helping the team go from winning three games to making it all the way to the AFC Divisional Round.
With rookies Will Anderson Jr. and C.J. Stroud by his side, the former player has put together a promising project for an ever-struggling franchise, and the future seems quite bright in Houston.
As for the Niners, they will now count on Steve Wilks to take care of the defense on the biggest stage, and he’s done a sound job as his replacement.
And while they do have more than enough resources to take care of business and take the Vince Lombardi trophy back to the Bay Area for the first time in nearly three decades, the Niners’ stellar defense will have their hands full against Patrick Mahomes, Andy Reid, and Travis Kelce.
