With sports betting being legal in the majority of the country, it has become big business and something that many avid football and NFL fans take part in every week, but players in the league try to stay as far away from it as possible with the league handing down harsh punishments over the last couple of years.
The punishments have gotten so severe for NFL players who bet on games that the mention of betting is something that players try to steer clear of because the last thing they want is to be associated with gambling.
On Sunday, the Atlanta Falcons and New York Jets will go head-to-head on the field at MetLife Stadium, and quarterback Desmond Ridder was asked whether he’s made any bets with former University of Cincinnati teammate Sauce Gardner on who will come out on top in Week 13.
Ridder took a comedic approach to the question in order to avoid any discipline from the NFL, which was likely a smart move for him and his former Bearcats teammate, via Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team.

“No. We don’t bet here. … I want to make it to the game on Sunday.”

Even though the Falcons and Jets are getting close to being knocked out of playoff contention, this will be an important game for both teams as they try to stay afloat and keep their playoff hopes alive.
It’s perhaps a more important game for the Falcons, who still have a chance to win the NFC South division title, while the Jets have a slim chance to clinch a playoff spot even if Aaron Rodgers is nearing his return to the field.
