Before the San Francisco 49ers hit the field to officially start the 2024 season and begin what they hope will be a successful run at the Super Bowl championship, they have some off-the-field business to take care of.
Star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is going into the final year of his contract, and he has been holding out of OTAs as he is looking to get a lucrative extension from the organization.
According to Jeremy Fowler, Aiyuk is reportedly looking for an extension that would be similar to the one the Detroit Lions’ Amon-Ra St. Brown recently got.
That extension will be worth $28 million a year for St. Brown, and Aiyuk is apparently hoping to do a little better than that, per 95.7 The Game.
Brandon Aiyuk is seeking a similar deal to Amon-Ra St. Brown, per @JFowlerESPN. Amon-Ra got $28M a year on a 4-year extension from Detroit. “The goal appears to be to try to beat that.”@WillardAndDibs discuss what this means for the 49ers

Aiyuk caught 75 passes and posted 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns in 2023, which was a bit shy of St. Brown’s 1,515 yards and 10 touchdowns on 119 catches.
The latter has also made two Pro Bowls, while Aiyuk hasn’t been named to one yet, which could possibly hurt Aiyuk in his negotiations.
Over the last couple of years, Aiyuk, who is 26 years of age, has developed into San Francisco’s No. 1 threat in their passing game and something of a security blanket for quarterback Brock Purdy.
There were rumors San Francisco would look to trade him earlier in the offseason, and if both sides cannot come to an agreement as training camp nears, one would have to think a trade would become a distinct possibility.
If Aiyuk does indeed get traded, it would be a major blow to the 49ers’ championship hopes.
