The New York Jets endured a tumultuous 2023 after quarterback Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles in the first game of the season.
The team looked abysmal on offense and finished with a 7-10 record and the No. 10 overall pick in the 2024 draft.
Details emerged in a recent story from The Athletic that described a tense atmosphere within the Jets organization throughout the year, which led to head coach Robert Saleh threatening to take away staff members’ cell phones so they wouldn’t leak stories to the media.
One of the turning points in the Jets’ soured season was when reports leaked about Zach Wilson’s reluctance to return to the lineup after being benched.
Per sources, Robert Saleh threatened to take his staff’s cellphones if the leaker didn’t confess.

This apparently stemmed from a story about Zach Wilson’s hesitancy to return as the team’s starting quarterback after being benched in the middle of the season.
While Saleh and Rodgers publicly denied the rumor about their disgruntled young quarterback, the team was internally frustrated with what was being reported to the media.
Nothing went well for the Jets without Rodgers this year despite all the hype surrounding the team before the season, and now they’ll head into 2024 with almost the exact same team and some tweaks to the coaching staff.
The big question throughout the year, especially in the wake of this article, is the job security of Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas.
There were rumblings both could be let go after the 2023 season, but Rodgers and owner Woody Johnson eventually backed both for the pivotal 2024.
Things could be different, though, if the Jets can’t deliver on the promises they made with Rodgers a year ago.
Either way, it’ll make for a very interesting season in 2024.
