The Los Angeles Dodgers have made it clear on their direction this offseason.
They are doing whatever it takes to win the World Series.
Many people saw their signing of Shohei Ohtani as the big move of the offseason.
But, that appears to be just the first of many for the Dodgers.
Ohtani is unable to pitch next season due to elbow surgery he received in September.
So the Dodgers still found it necessary to address their starting pitching woes.
They did so by acquiring arguably the top starting pitcher on the trade market.
The Dodgers received Tyler Glasnow in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays.
But, to make the deal official the Dodgers wanted to give Glasnow a long-term extension.
He ended up with a five-year deal worth $135 million.
Doug McKain thinks this is a slam-dunk move for the Dodgers.
Despite some injury concerns, he said Glasnow is “worth the risk.”
This is a trade the Dodgers absolutely had to make. Tyler Glasnow’s stuff is so nasty that he’s totally worth the risk. This is fair market value for a pitcher of his caliber. Glasnow’s 2.75 xFIP was first among all pitchers with at least 120 IP last season. Ace-level stuff. https://t.co/JvTZmm47V5

Glasnow has all the makings of an ace.
His only problem has been staying healthy.
Glasnow set a career-high in innings pitched last season with 120.
He started 21 games, which was the most of his entire career.
But, to be a true ace, you need to pitch more.
The best in the business are good for around 200 innings a season.
If Glasnow can get to that number he will be in Cy Young contention.
Glasnow is exactly the type of pitcher the Dodgers needed in their rotation.
A dominant strikeout pitcher that can shut down some of the best teams in the league.
The Dodgers lost in the NLDS last year because their pitching was poor.
That should no longer be the case this year.
