Last offseason, the Dallas Cowboys had to move on from franchise running back Ezekiel Elliot, and this offseason they have had to stomach the loss of another running back due to Tony Pollard signing with the Tennessee Titans in free agency.
The departures and lack of free agency moves leave just Rico Dowdle and Deuce Vaughn in the current backfield, but a couple of ESPN analysts believe one of the draft’s best prospects is a perfect target for them in the second round.
ESPN’s Mina Kimes shared a highlight video of Texas running back Jonathon Brooks and said he is her RB1 in this draft class, to which ESPN’s Jordan Reid responded that the: “Cowboys at 56 makes too much sense.”

Kimes said that Brooks is the “best zone back in the class” and praised him for being a complete player due to his “vision, balance, long speed, power, hands,” while mentioning that the injury history is his biggest red flag.
This RB class is one of the weaker ones in recent memory with almost no chance of a running back being taken in the first round unless there’s a big surprise, but Brooks has the benefit of being just 20 years old and coming off a huge breakout season.
Brooks ran for 1,139 yards and ten touchdowns in ten games as a sophomore at Texas last season and has ideal size for a RB at 6-foot and 216 pounds.
Any back the Cowboys take will likely slot right in as the every-down workhorse, so Brooks has to be excited about this idea.
