The New England Patriots swung for the fences in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Whether they’ll hit it out of the park or swing and miss remains to be seen.
On paper, Drake Maye is undoubtedly an elite quarterback prospect with every single physical trait one would ask from his franchise signal-caller.
However, he’s also quite raw, and might need a year or two on the sidelines before being NFL-ready.
That’s a big concern for NFL analyst Greg Cosell.
In the latest edition of the Ross Tucker Podcast, he questioned whether the Patriots would be able to fix his accuracy and ball-location issues.
“Maye was the ‘toolsiest’ of all the QBs in the Draft…missed too many easy ones, layups, poor ball location…he just missed too many.”@GregCosell breaks down the pros and cons of the Patriots newest QB1: pic.twitter.com/E5IZAbCq98

While he acknowledged that he had perhaps the most tools of all quarterbacks in this class, he was also concerned about the easy throws he constantly missed because of his poor ball placement.
Cosell questions if he’s fixable and will ever be accurate on throws 12 yards and underneath.
Then again, some of those issues seemed to be mechanical, and more often than not, that can be fixed.
The Patriots need to take the Jordan Love approach with him.
He’s still young, and getting him to learn the ropes of the NFL life, watch tape, and work on his mechanics could definitely do wonders for his game.
Still, that’s not the way things are done in today’s game.
Teams want their guys to be out there as early as possible, and that’s why so many promising young quarterbacks have been out of the league by the time their second contract comes.
Hopefully, that won’t be the case this time.
