The top of the 2024 NFL Draft has been projected to see three quarterbacks off the board with the first three picks, though it is far from a sure thing exactly what order the top three QB prospects will be selected.
USC standout Caleb Williams appears to be locked in at No. 1 at this point, but nothing beyond that is certain as according to recent reports, Washington may be leaning towards 2023 Heisman winner Jayden Daniels out of LSU.
NFL analyst Daniel Jeremiah of NFL Network says that’s not set in stone, as UNC’s Drake Maye is “absolutely still in play” for the Commanders with the No. 2 pick.

Washington traded 2023 starting QB Sam Howell to the Seahawks this week, further locking in the notion that it is going QB at No. 2.
Jeremiah brought up the fact that Howell and Drake Maye are best friends, so moving Howell out could pave the way for Maye without any behind-the-scenes difficulties.
Jeremiah also added that it’s less likely the Patriots trade down than the Commanders, as there are still plenty of other talented QBs at the top of this draft if you don’t love the idea of going Maye at 2, while the Pats appear to be locked in at 3 and ready to take their QB of the future.
Maye checks a ton of boxes in terms of what teams typically look for in a quarterback prospect, but has some concerns with his accuracy and decision-making.
In NFL Draft season, you never know what is a smokescreen and what isn’t.
Perhaps Washington is being intentionally vague to bait a team into trading up to No. 2.
