The San Francisco 49ers head to the Super Bowl with second-year quarterback Brock Purdy under center after he led them to the No. 1 seed in the NFC and a comeback win over the Detroit Lions in the NFC title game.
Purdy was even an MVP favorite at one point this season before a bad stretch of games pushed his candidacy out the door.
But despite his performances over the past few years, there are still questions about how he can perform in big moments – even after he led the 49ers to the Super Bowl following deficits in both playoff games.
Former NFL quarterback Eli Manning – a two-time Super Bowl winner himself – said he’s a believer in Purdy because the young gunslinger showed his ability to step up when the moment required him to in the postseason.
“The moment isn’t too big for him,” Manning said. “… You never want to say, ‘It’s just another football game.’ That’s so cliche. … You kind of want to have that feeling of, ‘I’m going to play my game and I’m going to trust my teammates.’”

Purdy might have some problems with the Kansas City Chiefs, though, after their defense held Lamar Jackson to just seven offensive points in the AFC title game following key wins over Josh Allen and Tua Tagovailoa in the previous two playoff games.
Purdy’s 49ers have a more impressive collection of skill position players, though, which makes his life easier in the pocket if he can limit his mistakes in the biggest game of his young career.
