The Washington Commanders entered the 2023 season with a new offensive coordinator.
Eric Bienemy joined this coaching staff from the Kansas City Chiefs, hoping to impact an ever-changing franchise.
Reporter Grant Paulsen recently documented an exchange between Bienemy and a group of reporters as he was asked about his play-calling.
It seems some reporters in the room were misguided, as they asked Bienemy about his first season in this type of role.
He responded, “Well, first of all— this is not my first time as a play-caller.”
Eric Bieniemy was asked by reporters today how he thinks his first season as play-caller has gone:
“Well first of all — this is not my first time as a play-caller. I’ve been doing this now for six seasons. I’ve been in this seat, I’ve been in this role.”
Interesting.

Bienemy also indicated that he has been in a similar role for six years, a chance to further dig into this misguided question.
His experience with the Chiefs was a big reason he got this job, as he helped Patrick Mahomes and the offense achieve great things.
Bienemy is a two-time Super Bowl champion, and he knows what it takes to win at the highest level in the NFL.
He’ll be given further opportunities with the Commadners to help them do that, perhaps as a head coach.
Ron Rivera has been on the hot seat throughout the year, as the Commanders have a 4-8 record.
While it seems like the team is content to keep Rivera around until the end of the season, it seems likely that the team will move on from him in the offseason.
This could pave the way for Bienemy to get a chance to be the full-time head coach, hoping to display his coaching abilities on a larger scale.
