Heading into the NFL offseason, the Atlanta Falcons had plans to be very aggressive in their efforts to upgrade their coaching staff and roster, with some big moves on the horizon.
Shortly after Atlanta’s 2023 campaign ended, the Falcons parted ways with head coach Arthur Smith, paving the way for the team to bring in Raheem Morris, even though there was talk of the team inevitably hiring legendary head coach Bill Belichick.
After making Morris the leader on the sideline, the next order of business was landing a veteran quarterback in NFL free agency, which they were able to do by signing Kirk Cousins to a four-year deal with $100 million guaranteed.
Following the addition of Cousins, the Falcons had a tough decision to make in the 2024 NFL Draft with the No. 8 overall pick, where the team neglected to address the defensive side of the football and drafted quarterback Michael Penix Jr.
Although that was a questionable move, the Falcons have made some moves on defense, including recently signing cornerback Anthony Johnson, according to Marc Raimondi of ESPN.
The #Falcons have signed CB Anthony Johnson, who was an undrafted free agent out of Virginia in 2023, the team announced today. Atlanta is now at its 90-man roster limit for training camp.

Even though the Falcons might be haunted by drafting Penix rather than bringing in a potential game-changer on defense, Atlanta should be a much-improved team heading into the 2024 NFL season.
Only time will tell whether the Falcons truly made the right moves during this NFL offseason, as this team wants to contend sooner rather than later, with high hopes of winning the NFC South division title next season and potentially for years to come.
