The quarterback position is the most important position in all of sports, especially in the NFL.
In the city of Atlanta, they are making that point quite clear.
After signing four-time Pro Bowl signal-caller Kirk Cousins to a four-year deal worth $180 million, the Falcons made waves by drafting stud Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. with the No. 8 overall pick.
It appears as if the franchise is not done looking to add depth at quarterback.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the team put in a waiver claim for former CFL quarterback and NFL practice squad signal-caller Nathan Rourke, who was awarded to the New Giants.

Atlanta has definitely made the quarterback position a top priority this offseason.
However, the way they have gone about it has been fascinating and quite shocking to say the least.
If they are trying to copy what the Green Bay Packers have done for so many years in terms of developing quarterbacks, it makes sense.
But they are going to be paying Cousins so much money over these next four years.
Do they really expect Penix Jr. to sit for four years?
Even the Packers didn’t do that with Aaron Rodgers or Jordan Love.
Time will tell to see how this situation works out.
But, the only way it works out perfectly is if Cousins leads Atlanta to a Super Bowl win.
He could then ride off into the sunset on that, which would make it Penix’s time.
The idea behind trying to add Rourke was simply just for depth purposes.
