After months of rumors and speculation, 2023 NL Cy Young award winner Blake Snell has finally committed his future to an MLB team.
On Monday night, just two days before the official start of the regular season, Snell agreed to terms with the San Francisco Giants on a two-year, $62 million contract, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN.
“Reigning National League Cy Young winner Blake Snell and the San Francisco Giants are in agreement on a two-year, $62 million contract that includes an opt-out after the first season, a source tells ESPN,” he tweeted.
The deal also contains an opt-out clause so Snell can test the market again in 2024-25 if he so desires.
Earlier in the offseason, Snell rejected an offer from the New York Yankees in the $150-$160 million range.
Now, the market conditions have caused him to settle for what it’s likely going to be a one-year deal if he pitches well.
He did get a nice $31 million AAV (average annual value).
Fans flooded the Internet with reactions and thoughts about Snell’s new contract.
Many people criticized and made fun of Scott Boras, Snell’s agent and also the man in charge of Cody Bellinger and Jordan Montgomery’s career (among many others).

The Giants have killed it and it looks more and more likely that the Dodgers won’t have a cake walk to the NL West title. https://t.co/O6WbBR7dkw

Snell is fresh off posting a 2.25 ERA with 234 strikeouts last year with the San Diego Padres.
He might not open the year in the rotation right away given the fact he missed almost the entire spring training.
However, he has been getting ready on his own and recently looked good in an open workout.
In the end, he will be fine, and apparently so will the new-look Giants.
