The first new NFL general manager has been hired less than a week into the offseason for some teams.
The Washington Commanders are reportedly hiring San Francisco 49ers assistant general manager Adam Peters as their top front office executive, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The news didn’t come as a shock to many, as Peters was predicted to be the team’s top choice following successful stints with the New England Patriots, Denver Broncos, and 49ers in front-office roles.
But fans were nevertheless excited about the new era of Commanders football.

Peters now takes over a team that owns the No. 2 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and could go in a lot of different directions with the roster.
Second-year quarterback Sam Howell showed good traits, but played too erratically at times and was benched during two different games at the end of the season.
The offensive skill position talents of wideouts Terry McLaurin and Jahan Dotson with running back Brian Robinson in the backfield should be intriguing if Peters wants to add a quarterback in the draft.
First, though, Peters and company will need to hire a new head coach after the team fired Ron Rivera.
There are plenty of big names out there, from former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick to former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel as well as new names like Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson.
Whatever direction the Commanders go in, at least now they have their front office leader to bring them down that path as the rest of the offseason moves forward.
