St. Louis Cardinals fans sure got some news to analyze on Monday.
No, it wasn’t the signing of any free agents, or a major trade.
It was news from the front office, involving an important hire.
“We have named Chaim Bloom as an Advisor to the President of Baseball Operations. Bloom most recently served as Chief Baseball Officer for the Boston Red Sox from 2019 through 2023.”
That’s what the Cardinals’ official Twitter account wrote.
Imagine fans’ surprise when they read that!
Let’s see what they think of their team’s new addition.
Despite some Boston Red Sox fans (his former team) “warning” them, most Cardinals fans were happy and showed it on social media.

Outstanding hire. He’s one of the brightest minds in baseball and he pulled the Red Sox out of the worst spot they’d been in since the 1950’s. Should never have been fired.

Of course, there were a couple of negative opinions too, so it wasn’t a clean sweep:
the guy who ruined the Red Sox? cool, he will fit in perfectly here.

Bloom was fired as the Red Sox Chief Baseball Officer in 2023.
Ownership couldn’t get past the fact he made the postseason just once in his tenure (which started in 2020), even though it was an AL Championship Series appearance.
Bloom wasn’t perfect in Boston, but his hands were pretty much tied in the Mookie Betts trade and he helped build a very strong farm system, one that will serve as the franchise’s foundation for years to come and has already been feeding the roster with quality contributors.
Before his stint with the Sox, he had been a valuable member of the Tampa Bay Rays’ front office, helping build a sustainable contender with very little resources.
Fans hope he can have a huge impact in the way the Cardinals draft, sign, and develop players.
His future partnership with John Mozeliak is promising.
