The Kansas City Royals entered the offseason with the objective of spending and improving their roster.
It was a nice shift to the way they had been handling business since winning the 2015 World Series.
Since that title, they have consistently been one of the worst teams in baseball.
However, J.J. Picollo assumed the role of general manager and president of baseball operations when Dayton Moore was fired in September 2022.
On Tuesday, the Royals announced a cool, meaningful addition that will help them be better in 2024.
“Right-hander Seth Lugo and the Kansas City Royals are in agreement on a three-year, $45 million contract, a source told ESPN,” MLB insider Jeff Passan tweeted.
The Royals outbidding contenders for a very solid starter is certainly one of the most refreshing storylines of the offseason.
It also comes just hours after an agreement with reliever Will Smith was reached, too.
Fans reacted to the news of Lugo joining the young Royals team.

That’s a good move.

The Royals have Bobby Witt Jr., Vinnie Pasquantino, Salvador Perez, MJ Melendez, Nelson Velazquez, Cole Ragans, Brady Singer, and other talented players.
They are still probably the worst team in the AL Central, but the gap is closing and, with a couple more moves, they could actually be competitive next year.
This is a team that lost 106 games in 2023, so the road back to respectability is long.
What they are doing, however, is a good sign for the sport.
