Philadelphia Eagles defensive assistant Matt Patricia has had a wild few years in the NFL.
After a sensational run as the defensive coordinator of the New England Patriots from 2012-2017, Patricia had three horrible seasons as the head coach of the Detroit Lions from 2018-2020 before a two-year stint with the Patriots from 2021-2022 that included one year running the offense.
Patricia joined the Eagles staff this year as a senior assistant but will now reportedly run the team’s defense over defensive coordinator Sean Desai, according to Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer.
That news had fans buzzing, especially given Patricia’s history and the Eagles’ rest-of-season outlook.
Eagles had two bad games and their answer to fixing the defense is having Matt Patricia come in eagles are done

A 10-3 team making these types of moves during Week 15 is so embarrassing

This is a weird look for the Eagles, but a change seemed necessary after the Eagles gave up at least 33 points to opponents in their past three games.
Philadelphia allowed 34 points to the Buffalo Bills in its Week 13 overtime win before the team gave up 42 points to the San Francisco 49ers and 33 points to the Dallas Cowboys in back-to-back weeks.
Now, those teams are three of the best offensive teams in the NFL, so the outcome wasn’t shocking.
But the Eagles have also allowed 24.7 points per game this season – 28th in the league.
Former defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon, who left the Eagles for the Arizona Cardinals head coaching job this past offseason, never coached a defense worse than 14th in points allowed and 12th in yards allowed during his two seasons in Philadelphia.
Desai joined the Eagles this season after one season with the Chicago Bears where his defense allowed the sixth-fewest points in the league.
But with a star-studded defense and Super Bowl aspirations, Philadelphia shouldn’t be giving up this many points.
