On Tuesday, the San Francisco Giants made an important hire with an eye on the 2024 MLB season and beyond.
After firing Gabe Kapler before the end of the campaign, they have filled their manager position with former San Diego Padres skipper Bob Melvin.
Melvin was in front of the Padres last year when they made it all the way to the NL Championship Series, and also this year when they unexpectedly failed to make the postseason.
A new chapter is about to begin for both franchises: Melvin will try to take the Giants back to the playoffs next year, in an increasingly difficult NL West division.
The Padres, on the other hand, are likely to hire one of Mike Shildt or Ryan Flaherty according to recent reports, opting against an internal candidate.
Fans, of course, were there on Twitter to voice their opinions on the Giants hire.
The exact circumstances of how Melvin gets to pick the Giants over the Padres are still unknown, but Padres supporters aren’t exactly happy.
The Padres will be hard pressed to upgrade or even replace Melvin as manager. The team has many issues, but he wasn’t one of them.

I feel for @padres fans. Preller is the problem and he still hasn’t been fired after a decade of this crap

Good for him. He knows how bad the Padres front office and clubhouse are. He’s hitting the eject button.

Most fans say that president of baseball operations AJ Preller is the primary person responsible for the team missing the postseason this year and, therefore, Melvin’s departure.
However, everybody in the organization should share the blame including Melvin himself.
Giants fans are, nonetheless, excited for what is about to come with Melvin at the helm.
Massive move by the Giants! Bob Melvin’s leadership could be the game changer they need. Looking forward to the next season! #SFGiants #BobMelvinEra

Melvin is an experienced clubhouse general with more than 1,500 regular-season wins as an MLB skipper.
With a solid offseason, there is a path for the Giants to compete again next year and actually make the postseason.
