The San Francisco Giants fired manager Gabe Kapler before the regular season ended.
In four seasons with the Giants, he made the playoffs only once, in 2021, although it was a truly impressive campaign in which the team won 107 games and he was the Manager of the Year.
Still, after failing to reach the ultimate team goal for a second straight season, he was dismissed.
Now, the Boston Red Sox appear to be interested in him, but for a different role.
Several outlets reported on Friday that the Sox interviewed Kapler for the available head of baseball operations opening, a few weeks after firing Chaim Bloom.
It was of shocking to hear that, although not completely out of the blue since Kapler has had front office positions in the past.
He is well versed in the world of analytics and his profile could match with that of a modern general manager.
Still, fans couldn’t believe their eyes when they saw the report.
Lol what??

For all the criticism he often gets, Kapler has a positive 456-411 record as manager.
There is no question he knows the dynamics of the modern game, too.
Will that be enough to help him land such a desirable job with the Red Sox?
It seems unlikely, but unlikely is not impossible: only time has the answer to that question.
Kapler is actually no stranger to the Red Sox franchise: he played there in 2003 and 2004, being part of the team that broke the Curse of the Bambino and won its first World Series since 1918.
He then returned for a stint between 2005-06.
The upcoming weeks will be very interesting for the Red Sox and Kapler’s futures.
