It’s the time of year when NFL rookies show up attempting to make an instant impression, and veterans work to display that they are still at the top of their game.
For many, it is a last-gasp effort to salvage another year in their professional career.
Such may be the case of Jakeem Grant, a former All-Pro who logged six seasons with Miami and briefly spent time in Chicago and Cleveland while earning a sterling reputation as a solid special-teamer.
Tom Pelissero reported that the two-time All-Pro return specialist is with the New York Jets this week for a camp tryout.

The former Texas Tech standout was chosen by Miami in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL Draft after breaking the school’s all-time record for receiving yards.
In Week 5 of his rookie season, Grant broke free for a 74-yard score on a punt return against Tennessee in a play that made numerous highlight reels.
Flash forward to the season opener in 2018 when Grant was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his electrifying 102-yard kickoff return against Tennessee.
Just two weeks later, the part-time wide receiver hauled in a pair of passes for 70 yards and two scores against Oakland.
Grant added a 70-yard punt return score two weeks after that achievement before suffering a season-ending injury.
Now, he is trying to recapture some of that past magic with the Jets.
