Currently a host on SiriusXM MLB Network Radio, Jim Duquette was an MLB executive in the past.
He even held the position of general manager of the New York Mets and another high title with the Baltimore Orioles in the 2000s, among others.
He knows the league, he has connections on several teams, and he is paying close attention to the free-agent market and how it develops.
He recently alerted Houston Astros fans to keep an eye on third baseman Alex Bregman.
Bregman is an extension candidate among many on the Astros roster.
Before the 2019 campaign, he signed a five-year, $100 million deal with Houston, one that will expire after the conclusion of the 2024 season.
Duquette isn’t convinced the Astros can retain Bregman, so they could potentially trade him.
“‘I think they’re listening. Keep on eye on Alex Bregman.’ @JimDuquetteGM isn’t sure the #Astros can re-sign their star third baseman next offseason. Here’s what he’s hearing about Bregman’s availability in the trade market,” MLB Network Radio tweeted.

He said that there is “a chance” Bregman isn’t playing in Houston this upcoming season.
It will all depend on the types of offers the Astros receive for him, and on how extension talks go.
There are a myriad of extension candidates in Houston, and they are unlikely to retain them all.
Bregman, 29, had 28 doubles and 25 home runs in 2023, with a .804 OPS.
His career OPS is a cool .861, and he is still in his prime.
Bregman contributes on offense and defense from the hot corner and is considered a winner, a respected veteran and a talented baseball player.
