After they were defeated by a combined 27 points in their first two games of the season, most assumed the 2023 campaign was just going to be an opportunity for the Houston Texans to develop some of their young players and not really be concerned about their overall success.
However, the Texans have won their last two matchups by at least 20 points, including a 30-6 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers last week, and some are starting to think they might be one of the most surprising teams in the NFL this season.
Former NFL quarterback Ryan Leaf is among the people who have been impressed with what Houston has done out on the field during their last two games.
“[Houston’s] defense is good, they’re young, they’re playing fast, and their quarterback doesn’t shy away from the big moment. He’s going to make big plays.”

Before he was hired by the Texans earlier this year to be their head coach, DeMeco Ryans was viewed by many as one of the top up-and-coming head coaching candidates when he was the defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers.
Well, so far, the feelings from the majority seem to be right about Ryans, as he has Houston in contention for the NFC South crown just four games into the 2023 season.
Now, it is still early, and a lot can take place during the 13 games that are remaining on the Texans’ schedule.
But even if Houston doesn’t win the division or make the playoffs this year, the team and their fan base have to feel good about what lies ahead in the future for this team.
Ryans and the Texans will attempt to extend their winning streak to three games when they travel to face the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.
