The New York Giants starred in a huge standoff with Saquon Barkley this offseason.
The star running back threatened to hold out and sit if he didn’t strike a new deal, and he eventually had to settle for a one-year contract instead of the franchise tag.
The Giants didn’t seem to value his contributions, even though he was crucial for Daniel Jones’ breakout season.
So, now that Barkley has missed some time with an ankle injury and we’ve seen how mightily Jones struggles without him, former NFL star Robert Griffin III took to Twitter to talk about his importance.
LET’S TALK ABOUT THE VALUE OF A RUNNING BACK. Daniel Jones has more ints than TDs in games Saquon Barkely doesn’t play in. The Giants are 3-8 in the last 11 games Saquon Barkely has missed. Saquon Barkley is WHAT MAKES THE GIANTS AND DANIEL JONES GO!

Griffin pointed out the fact that Jones has more interceptions than touchdowns when Barkley isn’t on the field, not to mention that the Giants are just 3-8 in their last 11 games without the Penn State product.
Most analysts thought the Giants should’ve placed Jones under the franchise tag and signed Barkley to a big contract instead, and that would’ve saved them a lot of trouble.
Of course, it’s easy to understand why the Giants had serious doubts about Barkley’s durability, especially after seeing that he’s missed plenty of time this season already.
But contrary to what NFL teams want to make it seem like, some running backs aren’t expendable and disposable, and some of them are the actual heart and soul of an offense.
That’s the case with guys like Saquon Barkley, and they need him back on the gridiron ASAP if they don’t want their $40 million a year quarterback continue to struggle and turn the football over.
