The San Francisco 49ers looked well on their way to finally winning a Super Bowl for the first time in decades, but miscues on special teams cost them a title.
Instead, the 49ers were forced to watch the Kansas City Chiefs celebrate their second championship in a row.
The loss left many wondering whether or not head coach Kyle Shanahan would ever get over the hump.
Shanahan was the offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons when they blew a 28-3 lead against the New England Patriots and later lost to Patrick Mahomes and Kansas City after giving up another first-half lead.
Shanahan didn’t waste any time making changes as he parted ways with defensive coordinator Steve Wilks just days after Super Bowl LVIII.
James Jones took exception to Wilks’ firing and called out Shanahan via Speak.

Jones brings up how well the San Francisco defense played throughout the 2023 NFL season and also makes note of how they held Kansas City to just three points in the first half of the Super Bowl.
Although the Chiefs got going in the second half, Wilks held up his end of the bargain as far as calling the defense goes.
It feels like a drastic move for Shanahan to make considering how well the defense held up for most of the playoffs, but it’s clear that he is looking for a top-tier defensive coordinator to help lead that side of the field for 2024.
