The Los Angeles Chargers have plenty of reasons to be excited about the future.
They lost some big names in the offseason, but they added Jim Harbaugh to the mix.
The expectations are as high as they’ve ever been for the organization, but it might take a while before they’re ready to compete at the highest level.
Nonetheless, that’s not how former NFL star Donte Whitner seems to feel.
Talking to Kay Adams for her “Up & Adams” show, he predicted that the Chargers would make it to the AFC Championship Game as early as this season.
“Jim Harbaugh is going to have the Chargers in the AFC Championship… in his FIRST year.”

He stated that Harbaugh is a winner, adding that he’s going to tailor-make his offense and that the running game would play a big role in what they do.
The Chargers already have a franchise star in Justin Herbert, and while he has left some to be desired in crucial moments, he’s talented and good enough to lead this team forward under proper management.
Brandon Staley seemed to hold him back more often than not, and this is obviously a major upgrade for the organization.
Granted, losing guys like Austin Ekeler and Keenan Allen is a major concern for this team, but they could address some of those needs in the NFL Draft, either by trading back or by landing a guy like Marvin Harrison Jr. or Malik Nabers with the No. 5 pick.
Whatever the case, the AFC is as stacked as it’s ever been, and it’s not going to be easy to fulfill this prediction.
