Buck Showalter spent a couple of seasons as the manager of the New York Mets.
His team went 101-61 in 2022, earning a spot in the postseason but losing in the Wild Card round to the San Diego Padres.
This year, the team made some important expenses on the roster, with both newcomers and players who were re-signed.
Naturally, the ownership and front office expected them to make the playoffs at the very least.
The Mets proceeded to finish with a 74-87 record.
Showalter was fired as a result, and some players didn’t like the move.
Francisco Lindor, the Mets’ All-Star shortstop, was one of them.
“Francisco Lindor says he’s ‘sad’ about the firing of Buck Showalter: ‘Do I like it? No, it doesn’t feel good. I hate seeing people lose their jobs. He let me be Francisco Lindor, and I appreciate that. He let my daughter run around and love on him, and I appreciate that,’” SNY tweeted with an excerpt of Lindor’s interview.

Showalter was not only a manager for Lindor: he was a friend who cared a lot for his daughter, and she loved him back.
The three had a wholesome relationship.
Of course Lindor was going to show his respect for a man who treated him and his family so well.
Showalter is a very respected manager, but on a team with huge expectations like the Mets, the kind of season they had will result in people losing their jobs and the manager is usually the most targeted individual.
They can’t fire all the players.
It remains to be seen if Showalter will return with another team next year, and who will manage the Mets.
It looks like it will be David Stearns’ first big decision as the president of baseball operations.
