After making the playoffs in 2022, the Seattle Seahawks felt confident heading into the 2023 campaign.
They locked down Geno Smith with a contract extension, seemingly trusting him to lead their team for another season.
While it was apparent that he had the trust of the organization and his teammates, this season didn’t exactly go to plan.
The Seahawks finished the season with a 9-8 record, leaving them just shy of a playoff berth.
This led fans and analysts to question many of the team’s decisions, including Smith’s role as their starting quarterback.
Smith has seemingly seen this hate on social media, as he recently commented about the lack of respect fans have for him and his teammates.
Lots of on the timeline I see..
Disrespecting hard work & patience!
— Geno (@GenoSmith3) January 23, 2024
He believes that the Seahawks put in a lot of work during the year, and while they came up short, they will be back next year.
Smith was Russell Wilson’s backup for a few years and knows a thing or two about being patient.
He waited his turn on the bench, and when his opportunity came around to become the starter, he took full advantage.
In his mind, Seahawks fans need to wait and see what he can do in the 2024 season, hoping it’ll yield better results than this year.
While this could be the case, Smith will need to overcome significant obstacles to ensure success in 2024.
The biggest barrier for him and his teammates will be bonding with their new head coach, as Pete Carroll has moved on from the team.
Can the Seahawks play their way back into relevancy next season?
