The New York Yankees are hoping this season is much better than the last.
The Yankees had one of their worst seasons in modern franchise history last year.
Finishing with a record of 82-80, it was the Yankees’ lowest win total in a 162-game season since 1992.
So the Yankees decided it was time for them to make a splash move.
They went out and traded for All-Star slugger Juan Soto from the San Diego Padres.
Now, the Yankees have two of the best hitters in baseball in their lineup in Aaron Judge and Soto.
But, to compete for a championship the Yankees will need to pitch much better this year.
That all starts with reigning AL Cy Young winner Gerrit Cole.
Even in a down year for the team, Cole was dominant.
He will start his 2024 campaign on Friday when he makes his spring training debut, per FOX Sports: MLB.

Cole will not pitch very long in this game.
But, getting him back on the mound should be a great sight for Yankees fans.
Cole should be the one steady force in the Yankees rotation this season.
But, the pitching of Carlos Rodon could be what makes or breaks their season.
Rodon was terrible last season in the first year of a big contract with the Yankees.
Getting him back to All-Star form will be crucial.
The AL East looks to be the toughest division on paper.
It is the one division where all five teams could have a shot at the postseason.
It will not be easy for the Yankees to reclaim the division title, but they have the roster to do it.
