Jane Park, a retired professional golfer with 268 professional appearances to her name, was renowned for her resilience and tenacity on the golf course, persistently chasing her dream of an LPGA Tour title win. Despite multiple top-10 finishes during her first two years, Park’s dream of clinching a title remained elusive. However, her passion for the game remained undeterred until her final professional appearance in 2023.
The birth of Park’s daughter, Grace Godfrey, in September 2020, heralded a significant shift in her life. The former LPGA Tour player’s focus gradually shifted from her professional pursuits to her newborn, leading to her retirement from professional golf in 2023.
However, a difficult challenge soon emerged when Grace was diagnosed with encephalitis, a condition that caused brain inflammation and subsequent disabilities. The Godfrey family, including Park and her husband, Pete, quickly adapted their lives to cater to Grace’s specific needs.
Despite the challenging circumstances, Park’s social media posts often depict Grace immersed in enjoyment, participating in various activities with her mother. In November 2024, an alarming incident saw Grace rushed to the hospital due to seizures, but Park reassured followers with a subsequent update that her daughter was recovering well.
Moved by Grace’s resilience, Park found a new creative outlet, painting, and established an Instagram page, ‘Inspired By Grace.’ She shares, “I started painting on a whim in February while watching YouTube videos. What began as a simple hobby has taken on a life of its own. I’ve found so much joy in representing disability and celebrating diverse experiences through painting.”
Park’s artistic journey has seen her create over 25 paintings in a month, each piece reflecting her progression and the influence of her daughter. “My daughter Grace is the heartbeat of my inspiration, and I’m lucky to be steeped in her beauty every day,” Park shares on her account.
Her artwork tells poignant stories of a mother-daughter bond, often featuring a mother and daughter navigating through various scenarios hand in hand. Some of her pieces depict the daughter in a wheelchair, suggesting a reflection of her and Grace’s journey. However, the positivity in the background settings, showcasing scenes of natural beauty and tranquility, underscores Park’s optimism and strength.
