The golfing world is abuzz as social media influencer, Paige Spiranac, and golf professional, Lucas Glover, take on the divisive AimPoint green-reading technique. Known for her outspoken nature, Spiranac has once again caught the public eye with her thoughts on the slowplay associated with AimPoint. The 31-year-old social media sensation doesn’t seem to be a fan of these contentious putting tools stirring up the golf community.
Spiranac’s critique, expressed on a popular social media platform, wasn’t aimed at AimPoint per se, but rather how it’s being utilized. She suggests that the primary issue stems from the inconsistent use of AimPoint by different players.
Adding fuel to the fire, Lucas Glover, a prominent figure in the golf circuit, chimed in with his viewpoint. Glover advocated for a complete ban on AimPoint, arguing that it hasn’t significantly improved players’ putting since its introduction. His comments came during an interview on the SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio show, reported by The News & Observer.
He expressed, “AimPoint, statistically, hasn’t helped anybody make more putts since its inception on the PGA Tour.” Glover further added, “Statistics have beared that out. It’s also kinda rude to be up near the hole, stomping around, figuring out where the break is in your feet. It needs to be banned. It takes forever.”
However, this heated debate didn’t go unnoticed by other key figures in golf, including one of the sport’s top players, Collin Morikawa. The American golfer retorted that the long putter used by Glover should also face a ban if AimPoint is deemed unfit. This has added to the tension in the golf community, with opinions clashing on even the most fundamental issues.
Meanwhile, Spiranac has been vocal about the slow pace of play in golf, labeling it a growing concern. Just a month ago, she aired her grievances about the issue, asserting that slow play is becoming more noticeable recently.
In a pointed statement, Spiranac said, “I’m going to say this about pace of play in professional golf, if you can’t play under 4 hours yourself then you have no room to complain. Slow play impacts both professional and amateur golf.”
The debate around AimPoint is a microcosm of the larger issues plaguing the golf world. With prominent figures like Spiranac and Glover leading the charge, the conversation around improving the game continues to heat up.
