In the recent Valspar Championship, a PGA Tour tournament, Justin Thomas gave an exceptional performance, making a remarkable impression right from the get-go. Despite his brilliant performance, the tournament was ultimately won by Viktor Hovland, who managed to pull off some stunning moves towards the end.
Despite the defeat, Thomas remains optimistic and determined to carry his excellent form forward into subsequent tournaments. The veteran golfer has an additional incentive to perform well, with his sights firmly set on the prestigious Ryder Cup. Thomas confirmed his aspirations during a press interview, expressing his hope to make the US team for the Ryder Cup, much like his contemporary, Jordan Spieth.
Thomas, as cited in The Golfing Gazette, reflected on his performance saying, “I think both of us would probably be lying if we said no. I mean, he got it going, hopefully Keegan was watching, I think we had a good best ball today.” He further added, “We obviously enjoy each other’s company and have played and are comfortable playing with each other and played a lot of golf together.”
There is no doubt that Thomas’ impressive performance, despite not clinching the victory, would have caught the eye of Keegan Bradley, the captain of the US team. Bradley is certainly looking to assemble the best golfing talent for his team, and Thomas’ recent form positions him as a top contender. Thomas, a seasoned player, holds a significant place in the upper echelons of the golfing world, even as he faces stiff competition from an increasingly talented pool of players.
Reflecting on his performance and the crowd’s response, Thomas said, “But definitely makes it a lot better when you’re out a little earlier than you would like on a Saturday morning, but you can kind of get the crowd into it. And we made a couple putts there on 4 and then he made a long one there on 7 and it seemed like that kind of got the crowd going and that’s fun for us.”
As the anticipation builds, all eyes are now on the US captain’s forthcoming decisions. It remains to be seen whether Thomas’ performance and passion for the game will earn him a coveted spot on the Ryder Cup team.
