LPGA superstar Nelly Korda is all set to redefine the future of women’s golf. Her dream, once a far-off vision, has now become a reality. Korda’s initiation of an all-girls invitational event, named after her, has proven to be a game-changing move. The first Nelly Korda Invitational, held on May 3, last year, was a resounding success, underlining AJGA’s instrumental role in shaping her golfing journey.
Korda’s desire to inspire the next generation of female golfers found its fruition when 14-year-old Aphrodite Deng clinched the win. However, this was just the beginning. Korda’s commitment to bring more to the table translated into a significant partnership with Chevron for the next three years. This move has solidified her vision for the upcoming season and beyond, creating a promising pathway for the next generation of golfers.
The partnership is a testament to AJGA’s dedication to fostering young talent and marks another significant stride towards inclusivity in golf. The announcement was made via AJGA’s Instagram account, accompanied by a caption that read: “Where the Next Champions Rise @ NellyKorda knows what it takes to shine, and through #TheNellyInv, she’s helping the next generation do the same…”
An ecstatic Korda shared the news on her Instagram story, expressing her deep gratitude towards those who brought her vision to life. The post read: “Travel stipends & AN EXEMPTION INTO 2026 @ thechevronchampionship!!!!! Wow, I can’t thank the people that brought our vision to life enough!!!”
But what does this new partnership entail?
The Nelly Korda Invitational signifies a vital phase in Korda’s journey and the trajectory of women’s golf. The AJGA has been holding an all-boys competition since 2021. However, it was not until last year that elite junior girls were presented with a similar opportunity. Korda, reflecting on her successful junior career with the AJGA, sought to extend the same privilege to the future generation of female golfers.
With the Chevron partnership, The Nelly Invitational will provide players with $2,000 travel stipends to cover entry fees, flights, hotels, and rental cars. This stipend, a record amount for a stroke-play event in AJGA history, aims to lower barriers for elite girl golfers from around the globe, setting a new benchmark for excellence.
Furthermore, the event promises a robust field of competitors. The AJGA will invite the top 10 eligible international players, irrespective of their AJGA membership or previous qualification through the Rolex AJGA Rankings. This move guarantees global participation and competition. The tournament champion will also receive an unprecedented opportunity – exemption into the following year’s Chevron Championship. This is a first for any AJGA tournament to offer a direct entry into a major championship.
Scheduled to take place at The Concession Golf Club, Bradenton, FL, from May 1 – May 4, the tournament is sure to usher in a new era in women’s golf. Join the journey and support the stars of tomorrow today!
